What happened

On Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, an Omani co-pilot allegedly stabbed Indian captain Smit Machchhar in an apparent attempt to crash the jet, which was carrying roughly 180 people, including many Israelis, about 20 children, and four U.S. citizens. The captain opened the cockpit door; passengers and off-duty pilots helped subdue the attacker after a sharp descent, and the aircraft landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after distress codes 7700 and 7500 were transmitted. The co-pilot was detained and later handed to the United Arab Emirates; UAE, Saudi, Israeli, U.S., and Omani authorities opened investigations. President Donald Trump said Thursday that Iran appeared linked based on what he was hearing and that Tehran would be hit “very hard” if involved. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the co-pilot had undergone Islamist radical indoctrination; officials have not publicly confirmed a motive.
Sourcing check · Fully on the record · 3 articles

3 of 3 articles cite a named source for the story. It was on the record from the first report.

What these terms mean and how they're counted
On the record · names a source 3 of 3
On the record means the article cites a source by name for the story's main claim: a person, or an institution speaking officially, such as a company statement or a named agency's spokesperson. The opposite is an unnamed source. The count is how many of the counted articles cite at least one such source; the names are everyone named across them, each once however the articles spell it. Here: Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump
Primary evidence · cites a document or data 0 of 3
Primary evidence means the article cites a record you could check yourself: a court filing or ruling, a dataset or report, a recording or transcript, an official statement or press release, market data. A quote is not a document. The count is how many articles cite one. Here: None cited.
Credits another outlet 0 of 3
The article says the story comes from another outlet's reporting (“first reported by Reuters”). Those articles relay the story; they are not independent confirmation. Here: Each article presents its own reporting.
Unnamed sources 1 of 3
The main claim is attributed to people who are not identified: “people familiar with the matter”, “officials said”. The count is how many articles do this.

Not counted 0
Opinion, analysis and video pieces, and articles too short to assess. Every count above is out of the counted articles. An article republished under a new headline is one article.
This is about who is cited, not whether the story is true. Each source below says what it names. How we count
ONE-SIDED THIS WEEK. Only right-leaning outlets have covered this story in the last two days; NBC News reported it on 2026-09-30.
Omitted — what each side leaves out

Unpacked

Left-leaning coverage has not reported the story. Right-leaning coverage says Trump told reporters Iran may be tied to the Omani copilot who allegedly tried to crash a Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv, and that Iran would be "hit very hard" if involved. Daily Wire and the New York Post both describe the Indian captain being stabbed, passengers forcing the cockpit, and a landing in Saudi Arabia. A reader who only sees left-leaning coverage misses the attack, the retaliation warning, and Netanyahu's claim that the copilot underwent Islamist indoctrination. Right-leaning coverage splits on how settled the motive is. Uncertainty remains in the New York Post, which records a regional official leaving room for mental disorders and Netanyahu calling an Iran link "too early to say." Daily Wire omits those caveats and treats the copilot as a terrorist. What evidence has been produced that the copilot was acting for Iran?
Bottom line

If you only read left-leaning outlets, you would not know Trump answered yes when asked whether Iran was linked to the Flydubai attack. Daily Wire and the New York Post both ran that exchange; nothing equivalent appeared on the left.

The Right View
The Daily Wire and New York Post reported the in-flight assault as a foiled attack on an Israel-bound jet and led with Trump’s suggestion of Iranian involvement and his warning of retaliation. They described the cockpit struggle, passenger intervention, the emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, Netanyahu’s indoctrination claim, and a coworker’s account of the co-pilot’s strict religious behavior. Coverage noted four Americans on board, Israel’s request to join the interrogation, and that investigators had not ruled out terrorism or mental disorder. Trump’s Iran link was framed as based on what he was hearing while the probe continued; Netanyahu told Fox it was too early to say whether Iran was involved.
Our Take (balanced)
The mid-air assault, named captain, flight number, distress codes, and emergency landing are specific, checkable claims with passenger and official detail. Trump’s Iran link and Netanyahu’s indoctrination claim remain alleged: no public evidence of Iranian direction has been released, the co-pilot has not been publicly identified, and a regional official said terrorism and mental disorder are both still under review. No left-leaning outlet has reported this. Watch for UAE and Saudi investigative findings, charging documents or a stated motive, independent corroboration of radicalization or Iranian involvement, and any formal U.S. or allied intelligence assessment.
