What happened

Jaime West, a Democrat running for Fayette County Council District 4 in Indiana, appeared in a televised candidate forum posted around October 9. In the interview she said she had not prepared an opening statement, answered that one decision she would make if elected was to “fire all Republicans,” described MAGA supporters as racist and unintelligent, and said a sheriff’s nephew had threatened to blow her head off. Asked for a final message to voters, she said, “We have guns too.” Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones told Fox News Digital he does not know West, has five nieces and no nephews, and that he was “certain she has no idea what she is talking about.” West is running against Republican Gary Keener Jr.; media outlets reported they could not immediately reach her for comment.
Sourcing check · Partly on the record · 4 articles

1 of 4 articles cite a named source for the story. It was on the record from the first report. Zac Jones denied part of it on the record.

What these terms mean and how they're counted
On the record · names a source 1 of 4
On the record means the article cites a source by name for the story's main claim: a person, or an institution speaking officially, such as a company statement or a named agency's spokesperson. The opposite is an unnamed source. The count is how many of the counted articles cite at least one such source; the names are everyone named across them, each once however the articles spell it. Here: Jaime West
Primary evidence · cites a document or data 3 of 4
Primary evidence means the article cites a record you could check yourself: a court filing or ruling, a dataset or report, a recording or transcript, an official statement or press release, market data. A quote is not a document. The count is how many articles cite one. Here: video recording, video
Credits another outlet 0 of 4
The article says the story comes from another outlet's reporting (“first reported by Reuters”). Those articles relay the story; they are not independent confirmation. Here: Each article presents its own reporting.
Unnamed sources 0 of 4
The main claim is attributed to people who are not identified: “people familiar with the matter”, “officials said”. The count is how many articles do this.
On-record denial 1
A named person or institution says the claim, or part of it, is not true. It is on the record — someone signed their name to it — but it is not confirmation, so it never counts toward On the record. Criticizing or dissenting from a decision is not a denial. The count is how many people or institutions deny it; each is listed with the first article that carried the denial. How it developed

Not counted 0
Opinion, analysis and video pieces, and articles too short to assess. Every count above is out of the counted articles. An article republished under a new headline is one article.

Unpacked

Left-leaning coverage has not reported the episode at all. Right-leaning coverage says Indiana Democrat Jaime West, running for Fayette County Council, used a candidate forum to pledge she would fire all Republicans, attack MAGA voters as racist, allege a death threat from a sheriff's nephew, and finish with "We have guns too." The Fayette County sheriff, speaking to Fox News, said he has five nieces and no nephews. A reader relying on left-leaning coverage would miss both the forum remarks and that on-record contradiction. Right-leaning coverage splits on what to put first. The demeanor-first version in Washington Examiner highlights slurring and a sound viewers believed was a fart. The MAGA attack leads in Fox News instead. Has West explained the forum tape or answered the sheriff's claim that she named the wrong relative?
Bottom line

The only place a reader can find Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones saying he has zero nephews is right-leaning coverage such as Fox News; left-leaning outlets have not run the forum story.

The Right View
Fox News, The Daily Wire, and the Washington Examiner reported that West’s forum clip went viral after critics said she slurred her words, rambled, and appeared intoxicated. They highlighted her pledge to fire all Republicans, her distinction between “good Republicans” and MAGA voters she called racist and unintelligent, her ICE-related remarks, the alleged threat from a sheriff’s nephew, and her closing line “We have guns too.” Conservative commentators including Chaya Raichik and Viva Frei questioned whether the video was genuine or whether impairment explained her delivery; the Washington Examiner also noted slouching and a sound some viewers took for a fart. The outlets carried Jones’s on-the-record denial and said West had not publicly explained the interview.
Our Take (balanced)
The story is substantive on the core record: a named candidate made specific, checkable statements on camera in a public forum, and a named sheriff responded on the record. Established facts are West’s quoted remarks—including firing all Republicans, her MAGA comments, the nephew-threat claim, and “We have guns too”—plus Jones’s denial that he has a nephew or knows her. Uncorroborated are claims she was intoxicated and that any such threat occurred. No left-leaning outlet has reported this. Watch for a statement from West, any independent corroboration of the threat allegation, and further comment from local officials.
