What happened

Chukwunonso Uzoma David Uzoma Eze, a Nigerian national and UMass Dartmouth student, was arrested and charged with murder after UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine was fatally stabbed in the chest during an altercation around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot near Mezzo Lounge in Providence, Rhode Island. A second player, Kensley Macean, 19, was stabbed in the head and neck and taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Providence police said the fight involved people who had been at the lounge; Eze was later taken into custody by UMass Dartmouth police. Federal law-enforcement sources cited by Fox News said Eze entered the United States on a B-2 tourist visa in 2015, overstayed after Obama-era extensions, and later received deferred action under both the Biden administration (September 2022) and the Trump administration (October 8, 2025). DHS said an August 2023 work-permit application was rejected and a February 2025 application remains pending; ICE lodged a detainer.
Sourcing check · Mostly on the record · 4 articles

3 of 4 articles cite a named source for the story. It was on the record from the first report. Most articles credit Fox News rather than reporting it themselves.

What these terms mean and how they're counted
On the record · names a source 3 of 4
On the record means the article cites a source by name for the story's main claim: a person, or an institution speaking officially, such as a company statement or a named agency's spokesperson. The opposite is an unnamed source. The count is how many of the counted articles cite at least one such source; the names are everyone named across them, each once however the articles spell it. Here: DHS, Providence Police Department, Oscar Perez and Fox News
Primary evidence · cites a document or data 0 of 4
Primary evidence means the article cites a record you could check yourself: a court filing or ruling, a dataset or report, a recording or transcript, an official statement or press release, market data. A quote is not a document. The count is how many articles cite one. Here: None cited.
Credits another outlet 2 of 4
The article says the story comes from another outlet's reporting (“first reported by Reuters”). Those articles relay the story; they are not independent confirmation. Here: Fox News
Unnamed sources 3 of 4
The main claim is attributed to people who are not identified: “people familiar with the matter”, “officials said”. The count is how many articles do this. Here: e.g. “multiple federal law enforcement sources”, “federal sources”

Unpacked

Left-leaning coverage has not reported this killing. Right-leaning coverage reports that the man charged with murdering UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine overstayed a tourist visa and later received deferred action under both the Biden and Trump administrations. The visa timeline, from a 2015 entry through an October grant of deferred action, is in Fox News. A reader of the silent side would not learn that the accused lacked lawful status, or that two administrations had delayed his removal. Right-leaning outlets split on the label for his status. Daily Wire's headline calls the charged man an "Illegal Immigrant Shielded From Deportation," while Fox News leads with the tourist-visa overstay and deferred action. On what legal grounds was deferred action granted to a tourist-visa overstay?
Bottom line

Fox News says the man charged with killing the UMass Dartmouth player got deferred action from Trump in 2025 after overstaying a visa. Left-leaning outlets have not carried the story.

The Right View
Fox News, the New York Post, and The Daily Wire report the same core immigration timeline from unnamed federal sources: legal entry on a tourist visa in 2015, two Obama-era extensions, an overstay, Biden-approved deferred action in September 2022, and Trump-approved deferred action on October 8, 2025. They stress that deferred action delays removal but does not confer lawful status, that a 2023 employment-authorization request was denied with another still pending, and that a murder conviction would end that protection. Coverage frames the case as a visa overstay who was shielded from deportation across administrations and then charged in a college athlete's killing. The Daily Wire additionally reports ICE lodged a detainer and that Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey walked away when asked whether state policies were to blame and whether she should work with ICE. Outlets differ on some details, including Antoine's age (18 or 19) and the suspect's reported age.
Our Take (balanced)
The criminal case is substantive and checkable: named suspect and victims, a specific time and place, a police account of a lounge-related altercation, an arrest, and a murder charge. The immigration chronology is thinner. The visa, overstay, and deferred-action dates rest mainly on unnamed federal sources speaking to Fox News, not on released records; DHS statements about the work-permit rejection, a pending application, and loss of deferred action if convicted are more concrete but still incomplete. No left-leaning outlet has reported this. Watch for charging documents, an on-the-record ICE or DHS confirmation of the 2015 entry and the 2022/2025 deferred-action dates, court filings, and any official comment from prosecutors, UMass Dartmouth, or Rhode Island authorities.
