What happened

On October 13, 13 of 24 girls on the Camas High School cross-country team in Camas, Washington, walked off the course about 50 meters after the start of a dual meet against Battle Ground High School. The walkout protested competing against junior Logan Mihailoff, who had switched midseason from the boys’ division to the girls’ division under Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules that allow students to compete according to gender identity. On September 5, Mihailoff placed 76th of 301 in a boys’ junior varsity 5K at the Ultimook Race; after the switch, Mihailoff placed second of 195 at the Nike Portland XC Invitational, won a varsity race against Union High, and finished second at the October 13 meet in 19:28. Camas Principal Travis Drake said the district must follow WIAA rules; head coach Matt LeGrand said the situation has been difficult for athletes and coaches. One Battle Ground runner also left the course; two opposing runners had walked off at a September 15 meet against Skyview; and Washington voters will decide Initiative 638 on November 3, which would define K-12 sports categories by biological sex.
Sourcing check · Mostly on the record · 6 articles

4 of 5 articles cite a named source for the story. It was on the record from the first report.

What these terms mean and how they're counted
On the record · names a source 4 of 5
On the record means the article cites a source by name for the story's main claim: a person, or an institution speaking officially, such as a company statement or a named agency's spokesperson. The opposite is an unnamed source. The count is how many of the counted articles cite at least one such source; the names are everyone named across them, each once however the articles spell it. Here: Sarah Burns, Travis Drake, Matt LeGrand, Jefferson County Public Schools, Kevin Burns and Camas High School
Primary evidence · cites a document or data 0 of 5
Primary evidence means the article cites a record you could check yourself: a court filing or ruling, a dataset or report, a recording or transcript, an official statement or press release, market data. A quote is not a document. The count is how many articles cite one. Here: None cited.
Credits another outlet 0 of 5
The article says the story comes from another outlet's reporting (“first reported by Reuters”). Those articles relay the story; they are not independent confirmation. Here: Each article presents its own reporting.
Unnamed sources 0 of 5
The main claim is attributed to people who are not identified: “people familiar with the matter”, “officials said”. The count is how many articles do this.
How it developed
When the first report landed and whether it named anyone; when the first named source and the first document appeared. Here: First report Oct 14, 08:21 UTC by Daily Wire, naming its source.
Not counted 1
Opinion, analysis and video pieces, and articles too short to assess. Every count above is out of the counted articles. An article republished under a new headline is one article.
This is about who is cited, not whether the story is true. Each source below says what it names. How we count
BLINDSPOT. Only right-leaning outlets are covering this story — the other side's media is silent.
Omitted — what each side leaves out

Unpacked

Left-leaning coverage has not reported the walkoff at Camas High School. Right-leaning coverage says Camas girls stepped off the course after the gun rather than race a boy who had moved into the girls' division midseason. Daily Wire puts the walkoff at 13 runners. Administrators, in that telling, said state identity rules left them no choice. A reader of the silent side would not know the protest happened. Right-leaning outlets disagree on the finishes that preceded the protest. Daily Wire reports a second-place result at the Nike Portland invitational after the switch. Breitbart says the athlete won the opening girls' race. The Tuesday race time appears only in Daily Wire. Were the girls who stepped off scored as did-not-finish, and has the state association reviewed the midseason switch?
Bottom line

Left-leaning outlets have not touched the Camas walkoff, so the only detailed account is Daily Wire's claim that the same runner placed 76th in a boys' race weeks before the girls stepped off.

The Right View
Daily Wire, Breitbart, OAN, and Fox News report the Camas walkout as girls refusing to compete against a biological male who moved from a mid-pack boys’ JV result into top girls’ finishes under state identity-based eligibility rules. They quote parent Sarah Burns, whose daughter Holly helped organize the protest, arguing male physiology (lung capacity, muscle, stride) displaces girls who trained for roster spots and titles, and they note parents holding a “Keep Girls Sports Fair + Female” sign while security tried to restrict signage. Coverage emphasizes school officials saying their hands are tied by WIAA and Washington anti-discrimination rules in place since 2007, prior captain resignations, a yearlong trespass notice to one protestor’s father after the Skyview meet, and the November 3 Initiative 638 vote. The same outlets also reported a separate Colorado case: parents at Dakota Ridge High School saying girls were cut from volleyball while a transgender athlete made the team, a Title IX complaint Jefferson County confirmed it is investigating, and a March Education Department OCR finding that the district’s gender-identity sports and facilities policies discriminated against female students, with Colorado’s Protect Women and Girls Sports Act also on the November 3 ballot.
Our Take (balanced)
This is a substantive story, not a thin one: it names the school, athlete, principal, coach, and parents; cites specific meet dates and placements (76th of 301 in boys’ JV, then second of 195 and a 19:28 girls’ finish); and includes on-the-record statements from Camas officials that they are applying WIAA identity-based rules. Established from the reporting: the October 13 walkout occurred (video is cited), Mihailoff switched divisions midseason, those race results are given as public meet outcomes, and the district attributes eligibility to state policy. What remains alleged or unverified here is any formal finding that this athlete’s participation violated Title IX in this meet, independent confirmation of every placement figure beyond the citing outlets, and the separate Colorado volleyball roster claims, which the district says it is investigating. No left-leaning outlet has reported the Camas walkout. Watch next for WIAA or district records on eligibility, independently posted race results, any Title IX or OCR filing tied to Camas, and the November 3 results on Washington Initiative 638 and Colorado’s sports measure.
